Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!! I'm asking for your financial support to help me reach my goal for this year's WI AIDS Ride. I've been part of the ACT (AIDS Network Cycles Together) ride community since 2014 when I first was hired by AIDS Network as a Bilingual Case Manager. Before this, I only heard of HIV in my science classes. I quickly learned that HIV was more than a unit in a science class. HIV affects everyone. You either have a friend/family member living with HIV, work in the HIV field, and/or engage in risk factors putting you at risk of HIV. I had the privilage to learn from passionate collgues who have dedicated their lives in providing services to people living with HIV. I also had the privilage to work closely with clients accessing services in the Madison community and work along side with them on challenges that faced them. I became passionate about my work because I was making a difference in their lives and them in mine.
Although HIV affects everyone, I need to point out that HIV disporportionately affects communities of color. In 2017, 61% of the 259 people newly diagnosed were people of color yet they only make up 17% of the WI population. Many factors contibute to this health disparity including education, economic status, health care systems, environment. As an HIV case manager, we help people living with HIV tackle these barriers in order for them to prioritize their health my remaining adherent and complient to their treatment plan.
As I continued my work in HIV, I wanted to bring awareness to my Latinx community. Esperanza Latinx ride group was created for WI AIDS RIDE 2015 (ACT 13)! I recruited 3 friends who belived in our mission which is to bring awareness about HIV to the Latinx community. We were on La Movida, a local spanish radio station in Maidson, where we provided HIV education, talked about the ride and invited people to join us. Esperanza Latina has returned every year since to represent!
What makes this ride special and keeps me returning every year is the courage. commitment. community. that everyone brings to the event. This has become a yearly family reunion. We have dedicated riders and crew members who continue on the traditions of the ACT ride. We've all been touched by HIV in different ways but come together in this ride to honor all lives lost to HIV.
I pledge to fundraise $1000 and ride 275 miles.
Please consider donating. Lets make a difference together!
Thank you for your time.
