Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page!! My name is Maria Huerta and I am a HIV case manager. I first became involved with the ride when I started my employment as a Bilingual HIV Case Manager with AIDS Network in 2014. I quickly became passionate about my work. I help HIV positive clients reach their goals and overcome barriers. Its very rewarding making a different in individual lives. Surveillance data shows that HIV disporportionately affects minority communities, specifically African American and Latino men.
That's how Esperanza Latina group was born for WI AIDS RIDE 2015 (ACT 13)! I reached out to friends who were passionate as I was about this issue. Our goal is to bring awareness about HIV to the latino community. We were on La Movida, a local spanish radio station in Maidson, where we provided HIV education, talked about the ride and invited people to join us. We rode 160 miles over the weekend! We also felt very welcomed by ACT ride community!
Esperanza Latina returned to the WI AIDS Ride 2016 (ACT 14)! I decided to volunteer and was part of the ICE and WATER CREW! It takes dedicated crew members to make this a successful event. By this point, the ride was becoming more of a yearly family reunion. It was great seeing old faces and new ones. Its amazing to see a group of all walks of life come together for this one mission that binds us together.
Esperanza Latina is now becoming a tradition. We participated in the WI AIDS Ride 2017 (ACT 15). I challenged myself to ride again. I had an accident on Century Day. I pushed through and finished the 100 miles but couldn't ride back to Madison the next day. Everyone was very supportive!!!
Esperanza Latina is back for WI AIDS Ride 2018 (ACT 16). I pledge to ride 175 miles and fundraise $800. Please help me reach my fundraising goal! Lets make a difference together!
Thank you for your time.
