Welcome to Ken's Page for the 2017 Wis. AIDS Ride into Milwaukee!
Philip, Rafael, Eric, Larry, Kurt, Fr. Steve, Paul... missed so many years of life on our planet due to this virus. They seized their precious time to socialize, advocate, express, laugh, weep, comfort, explore and live -- my gift was to be a small part of each one's journey. The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW)'s roots are the friends and care givers that grew around them and so many others before the rest of society could cope. Through fundraising I'm proud to support the current generation of education, service, prevention, and care. This 250-mile ride helps my health, of course, as it also gathers a passionately committed group who supports the ongoing services of the ARCW.
In the early days Madison and Milwaukee had crisis centers that offered counseling, dispatched volunteers to meet urgent needs and often provided hospice-like services. Nowadays, because the ARCW sites around the state go beyond medical care to be overall "Care" Centers -- medical, pharmacy, dental, mental health, food pantry, housing, case management, prevention -- clients of the ARCW are achieving the best results in the nation for undetectable viral load. That's not a cure, but it's as close as we've come. Delegations visited us last summer from St. Louis and Denver to see how it's done. The newly expanded center in Madison shares resources in a way which established health care providers are studying.
If you are inclined to support the work of the ARCW, I'd be honored if you chose to do so in my name.
